Scattering or Placement At Sea is not for everyone. However, it does provide a dignified, yet inexpensive, final disposition that is completely in compliance with all laws, regulations, and most religious beliefs. Catholic Bishops permit cremation and allow Burial at Sea by Placement of an urn, containing the cremated remains, on the sea bed. (more)  Burial at sea is dignified by long standing maritime tradition.  Among those who have been buried at sea include Ingrid Bergman (1915-1985), Rock Hudson (1925-1985), Jerry Garcia (1943-1995), as well as Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Jr. (1960-1999)...and the list goes on.

We provide this scattering service to fulfill a need.  We have been facilitating similar services for over a dozen years. We are neither a funeral home nor a crematory.  Nor does Ashes To The Deep have contractual affiliations with either.  As such, the deceased must be cremated near the place of death, through the auspices of a Funeral Director of your choice, at a cost generally about $1,000.

Send the ashes in the container and package provided by the crematory to Ashes To The Deep by U.S. Postal Service (your local post office), Registered Mail, Return Receipt Requested with Tracking Option.  Note: Private parcel carriers will not accept cremated human remains.  Include: the original Cremation Certificate (provided by the crematory), the Arrangement Form (get form - If asked for password, click Cancel to proceed), and the Document of Authorization for Scattering of Cremated Remains At Sea (get form - If asked for password, click Cancel to proceed). Also include your check or a Money Order in the amount for the option you select. Send to:

Receipt of cremated remains at Ashes To The Deep will be acknowledged promptly by return mail with an estimate of when the scattering service is likely to occur.

Scatterings or Placements At Sea take place well off the coasts of New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island in spring, summer, and fall.  Ashes received by Ashes To The Deep in mid fall, during winter or early spring  will be held for scattering or placement as soon as practical in the spring.  We provide an informative and appropriate Certificate of Burial at Sea.  All Scatterings and Placements are unattended, that is accomplished by Captain and crew. At this time, we can not accommodate memorial voyages wherein families or friends participate in the sea service.
